How many publications are required for PhD and DSc under the current regulation
Publication counts should be checked against the current degree-award regulation, not an old journal checklist. Paragraphs 18 and 19 distinguish the total number of published works from the number of journal articles.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
A PhD dissertation requires at least seven published research outputs. At least three must be articles in scientific publications, including one in a reputable foreign scholarly journal. At least two conference materials arising from discussion of the results must also appear in international-conference proceedings.
Doctor of Sciences (DSc)
A DSc dissertation requires at least fifteen published research outputs and at least ten articles in scientific publications. One article must appear in a reputable specialist journal in a foreign country where the relevant field is developed. At least two materials must appear in international-conference proceedings. For the social sciences and humanities, the current regulation also requires a monograph on the dissertation results; Decree PF-98 removes that requirement from 1 January 2027.
Count correctly
The same article entered twice under slightly different titles remains one work. Check authorship, year, issue, pages and the journal’s status on the publication date. Other paragraphs provide exceptional award routes; these minima describe the ordinary dissertation route.
