Who is responsible for dissertation abstracts in autumn 2026
From September 2026, academic councils bear responsibility for the abstract’s compliance when a defence announcement is submitted. OAK links this check to the future assessment of councils.
What the council examines
The council must examine more than whether the attestation file is complete. OAK identifies the abstract’s opening section, explanation of novelty, practical implementation and the existence of published work. Online availability of publications is part of the stated check.
Preparing the applicant’s file
Match each publication listed in the abstract against its actual record: authors, title, journal, year, pages and stable URL. Statements about novelty and implementation should agree with the dissertation and supporting records. Copyediting is no substitute for the council’s substantive review.
Keep the dates separate
Council responsibility for checking the abstract applies from September 2026. PF-98 removes the requirement to print the abstract only from 1 January 2027; these are distinct changes.
