Which international databases OAK distinguishes after 10 June 2026

A claim that a paper is “indexed internationally” does not identify what was actually checked. In June 2026, OAK distinguished field-relevant research databases from services whose mere presence is no longer an independent attestation criterion.

Field-relevant sources

OAK names 12 sources in three groups. They include Web of Science and Scopus, and PubMed for medicine and biomedicine; other entries cover chemistry, agriculture, geology, engineering and humanities. A direct record, subject fit and coverage period matter more than a logo on a journal site.

Resources no longer sufficient on their own

From 10 June 2026, OAK does not treat a number of platforms, publishers and directories as independent grounds for assessment. The examples listed include Crossref, DOAJ, ResearchGate, SCImago and Index Copernicus. They remain useful for their actual purposes: Crossref can help verify DOI registration and DOAJ can help locate an open-access journal, but neither fact alone establishes the required attestation status.

State the precise finding

Name the database, provide the record URL and check the coverage year. If all you found is a DOI deposit or researcher profile, say so; do not relabel it as Scopus, Web of Science or PubMed coverage.
