How to check a journal in the current OAK register
For attestation, a publisher’s marketing claim is less useful than the journal’s actual status in OAK’s official register for the relevant discipline. The commission provides an electronic page of recommended publications.
Before submission
Use OAK’s official page to search by full title and ISSN where supplied. Check the subject area and publication type. Similar titles can belong to different publishers with different statuses, so compare the entry with the journal site and issue archive.
Why publication date matters
The register changes as journals are added, renamed or removed. Compare the decision date with the date your article appeared; OAK sometimes explains separately how earlier articles are treated. A screenshot without its URL and capture date makes a weak record.
Limits of the register
Journal inclusion does not automatically establish your authorship, that your article appears in a particular issue, or that an uploaded PDF matches the published copy. Inspect the contents, DOI and article record independently.
